Circular Intensive Care Unit

The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has faced immense challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a significant increase in the use of essential treatment materials. This surge has had a considerable impact on the environment. To mitigate this impact, a green movement has been initiated in Operating Rooms across the Netherlands.

Metabolic conducted a comprehensive material flow analysis and impact assessment for the ICU at Erasmus MC. This study marks the first step towards establishing green ICUs in the Netherlands, aiming to reduce the environmental footprint of the medical sector.
